Adopt a tree. Keep Glenaladale Mine-Free

Help protect Glenaladale's endangered trees by symbolically adopting a tree and supporting the campaign to keep Glenaladale mine-free. Every tree adoption helps fund independent expert evidence during the Environment Effects Statement process, giving Mine Free Glenaladale the strongest possible voice in protecting this landscape for future generations.

The Proposed Mine Threatens Over 800 Significant Trees

This will be the largest vegetation clearance in Victoria of any recent development despite the changes GCM have made to the project. The proposed mineral sands mine threatens to destroy over 800 ancient hollow-bearing trees that are part of one of Australia's most endangered grassland ecosystems. Less than 0.5% of its original woodland and grassland extent remains. These trees and their surrounding ecosystems provide essential food, shelter, and habitat for many threatened animal and plant species.

The Importance of Mature Hollow-Bearing Trees

Mature trees are homes for hollow dependent species and produce exponentially more blossom and nectar as they age. It takes over 100 years for one tree to start to form a small hollow. It takes up to 250 years to form a hollow big enough for a large possum. There are no offsets for this kind of destruction.

Significant Tree Species Within the Mine Footprint

One of the main tree species here is Gippsland Forest Redgum (Eucalyptus tereticornis subsp. mediana)  Federally listed as Critically Endangered under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act and as part of the Critically Endangered Gippsland Red Gum Grassy Woodland ecological community. Another significant tree found within the mine footprint is Red Box (Eucalyptus polyanthemos) is globally classified as Near Threatened on the IUCN Red List

Tree Adoption to Support Expert Evidence

By symbolically adopting a tree, you'll help fund expert witnesses to represent Mine Free Glenaladale throughout the Environment Effects Statement process. Each tree available for symbolic adoption has been individually measured, photographed and mapped. They are all located in the Project area, and are at direct threat of removal. Donation options are based on the girth of the tree. Each Acknowledgment of Donation will have an image of the tree, it’s coordinates and species.

The tree girth aligns with the cost of the adoption
